I would like to describe my learning experience in Finland although my previous nearly International experience was within my country but in a different city called Pondicherry that is a union territory (meaning a city that can operate as an individual state). I have studied English as a medium of instruction all my life so no problem with English language at school and work. The major problem was with informal language. The local language was Tamil and I had no prior exposure to that. Tamilians took pride in conversing in their mother tongue even when non-native speakers are around. That was frustrating as I could not figure out what they were conversing in the group. That was the first time I stayed away from my parents so it was an enriching experience for both personal as well as academic growth.
We moved to Finland for a entirely different experience. Study was also on the top priority list. I started my doctoral studies right away and initially faced the same problem with language. Over a short period of time the problem diminished as I picked up some language. Study in Finland was definitely a different and enriching experience. I had the opportunity to study and work at the same time and that helped me to implement the methods I learn right away into practice. Overall I liked my international experience but I want to learn more about the world's best Finnish educational system. This I want to do because I would like to carry some knowledge to my home country and try to implement there for the benefit of the students.
