My baby steps in vocational
world started with the first virtual session on 10th of September. The session
started off quite well. We were divided into three breakouts and since there
are three people in our group, each breakout had one representative. The main
topic of the session would be ‘Learning and Tutoring’.
First
presentation was from team Mars and they had to present about ‘what kinds of
views of learning are there?’ their presentation started with a simple yet
sensible activity of writing our name the normal way, then with left had, eyes
closed and backwards. It was easy to write as we already know our name and the
connection between the known and the unknown was smooth. There were some
interesting topics that were touched during the presentation for example about
different learning styles and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. From the
presentation each one of us could get an idea what learning style would suite
us. Maslow’s pyramid on the other hand informs about the self-actualization
needs to thrive in the society. Psychological needs, safety and security needs,
social needs, esteem needs are those that rise in the pyramid. All in all that
was a great start for the session.
The
second presentation was by team Jupiter and their topic ‘ what role do learning
styles and strategies have in study guidance/tutoring?’
The
third and last presentation for the session was by Saturn and the topic was ‘
what role does the curriculum have in designing learning and guidance’.
Although I was eager to listen to what everyone had to say, I could not be
there for the whole time as my computer got switched off thrice as there was
some problem with the fan in my processor.
All
in all the first virtual session went well, there were some problems but I
guess as the sessions go by, things will improve.
