Task-1-IVeT is saving the world
The video is interesting and highlights most of the 'red-flag' problems that we all are facing in today's world. I would like to go in the same chronological order that the video is shown.
The gap between the rich and the poor is so huge everywhere and it is much more worse in my home country, the rich get ricer and the poor get even more poor. I think that as humans get richer, they become even more greedy and want to earn more and more, they probably forget that when we die, we take nothing with us. There are some exceptions but we are not discussing about them. How are we going to try to make a difference ? The future generation is more open if we consider the revolutionary aspects that crept in various walks of life. I also believe in a saying in my mother tongue. If I try to translate: ' If we cannot bend a small plant, it is impossible to bend it when it becomes a tree'. The youngsters/ students are those who can imbibe good and bad and reflect in shaping the future of a generations.
I quite did not understand the reason behind the images shown in economic problems, a sports bag, shopping mall etc, however what caught my attention was the last one' SALE-ON ALL BODY PARTS'. This is very unpleasant. although, it is a beautiful thing to donate organs post death to save somebody's life.
Saving the Environment is the responsibility of every living being on the earth. But how much are we doing in that direction? Here again, I believe that the seeds have to planted in a young fertile soil. We have to work together to save the environment and also preserve our culture so that future generations can enjoy a clean and healthy life.
This reminds me of a small story or an old man who was found planting mango seeds. The king who was passing by stopped at the sight and burst out laughing. When asked for the reason says that the old man is so stupid because he is planting mango seeds but won't live long enough to eat the fruit. To this the old man replies that the reason why he is planting the seeds is not to eat the fruit himself but for the future generations to enjoy. At this, the kind realizes how wise the old man is and orders to plant trees all over the kingdom. He is Ashoka the great king of India.
The teacher plays a pivotal role in making the students understand all the three vital issues that could make life healthy, beautiful and worth living.
विद्या ददाति विनयम्। - Does it mean something like "knowledge leads to happiness"? It's Sanskrit, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteA very good slogan, a suitably cryptic!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and especially the interesting saying and the story.
ReplyDeleteThe sports bag in the video was a fake one, and the shopping mall a huge one (where people most likely drive by car). I guess the idea was to criticise the the way we consume.
Great thoughts. In the Western world, we already is a slight shift towards post-materialism and a more lasting lifestyle. There are downshifters, those who move in the countryside to grow their own plot, without running water etc, and those who quit hectic jobs and rely on unemployment allowances. Those people try to do their part, but if all did it, it wouldn't work. Besides, it takes a whole lot of time to cook on wood stove and whisk your drinking water from the well. There was a news article of a family living in Kuopio, just a couple of km's from the city centre, who moved to a wooden house without running water or electric stove. Especially paid labour is valuable.
ReplyDeleteIt's so true that the more we earn, the more we cover and want. Having lived abroad in Africa, Asia, and Russia has left a permanent mark on me and one of the effects is that I want to invest on friendships, travel etc. instead of material things. If one earns enough, it's easy to purchase fair trade and organic products, but not all have this chance.
Thanks for the thoughts!Back in my school days, my city that is on the sea shore had the best weather. Summer maximum temperature was around 35 degrees centigrade and now 45. what could be the reason due to this huge shift is 15 years? back then we never faced water shortage or massive pollution problems and children enjoyed summer in the sun and by the beach. It was beautiful! at that time most of the middle-class families had wells in their home and whisked water from the wells. Wooden stoves were already outdated and seen in remote villages but we used LPG gas for cooking. Nowadays those wells are half sealed and everyone started to have motors to pump the water into individual water tanks in each household and use as much water as they want. The result, water shortage due to unnecessary wastage and pollution and global warming consequences due to increase in electrical appliances. I agree that nowadays people are destroying nature and creating materialistic things and feeling proud about their possessions,it is very sad but there is always hope for the big change. Like you mentioned organic products, hand made stuff and eco stuff are gaining recognitions and the more people will start using them the more will be their demand for productions which could lead to less costs of those commodities.
